The biology of CNS progenitor ageing
The biology of CNS progenitor ageing
Prof. Robin Franklin
Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell institute,
University of Cambridge
This talk will introduce the biology of the most abundant forms of stem/progenitor cell in the adult CNS - the OPC , its involvement in regeneration and adaptive learning, and its central role in why both these functions decline with aging. Published and unpublished data will be presented on how the age-state of the OPC is determined in very large part by extrinsic factors, primarily the mechanical features of the niche, and how the reprograming factor myc acts as a key regulator of age state.
