Jennifer Jones

Joined the BIE Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2021

Jenny began her career in Toronto at a leading IP boutique before joining the international Intellectual Property Group of Bird & Bird LLP in 2005, becoming a partner in 2012. Jenny’s expertise in contentious patent and regulatory matters is the result of over 20 years working on scientifically interesting, technically complex, and legally ground-breaking cases. This work has focussed in the life sciences sector; in particular, pharmaceutical, biotech and medical devices, representing clients wishing to enforce and uphold validity as well as those wishing to clear the path before market entry.

Jenny provides patentability, regulatory and freedom to operate advice, as well as regularly co-ordinating patent strategy, both before filing and as part of global enforcement, with colleagues across Europe, Asia and the United States.  This work sees Jenny representing clients before courts in the UK and across Europe, including at the European Patent Office with respect to CRISPR technology.

Jenny enjoys working with a team of people: clients, lawyers from other jurisdictions, and scientific experts. She enjoys developing strategy, both legally and commercially and particularly enjoys the scientifically interesting subject matter.

With an MSc in molecular biology and a BSc in genetics from the University of British Columbia, a law degree from Dalhousie and an LLM from Cambridge, she puts all of her education to good use.
