Discover a career in science

Staff, students and researchers at the Babraham Institute are keen to share their passion for science.  They have worked with our Public Engagement team to develop a series of videos to highlight the range of career opportunities available in science, both at the laboratory bench and away from it.

Feedback from previous schools’ events showed us that while students enjoy visiting our labs to try their hand at cutting-edge science, a key element is the opportunity for them to discuss careers in science with our researchers. Recognising the importance of providing more information to students considering their career options, we started to develop the new material as part of a Nuffield placement project which ran at the Institute during the summer.

The groundwork for the video project, including research at a local sixth-form college and interviews with our scientists, was carried out by Bethan, a student at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge. Two days of filming also allowed us to capture how our staff, students and researchers manage their work-life balance as well as showing what makes the Babraham Institute such an inspiring place to work.
