At Schools' Day, students from schools all over Cambridgeshire and beyond gather at the Institute to discover more about our world-leading bioscience research.
Led by Institute researchers and bioscience organisations at the Babraham Research Campus, secondary and sixth-form students complete hands-on lab projects.
Schools' Day is for students in Years 10-13. Typically, up to 5 students per school or sixth form may attend, although more places may be offered if capacity allows.
Often using equipment not available within schools, Schools’ Day aims to enthuse, inspire and motivate students and provide insight into what life is really like in the lab. Projects allow students to find out about current scientific research and solving real-world challenges using cutting-edge techniques and equipment.
Schools' Day is especially aimed at students from across Cambridgeshire and local areas but has welcomed groups from across the UK and abroad. Over 250 students and teachers attended last spring, and we hope our 2025 event will see even more young people engaging with bioscience.
Schools’ Day 2025 will take place on Thursday 6th March 2025!
If you would like to attend Schools' Day 2025 with a group of students, please complete this short form . The deadline for expressions of interest is Sunday 8th December 2024.
Note: This event is often oversubscribed as we have limited places. We will confirm whether you have been allocated a place in December.
See these additional notes for more on registering for Schools' Day and examples of projects.
We have also established a Travel Fund to support schools for which the cost of attending would be prohibitive. Funds of up to £500 are available to a limited number of state-maintained schools. Priority will be assessed using the English Indices of Deprivation 2019.
