In March 2024 the Babraham Institute celebrated the 30th anniversary of Schools' Day – an annual event where secondary and sixth-form students complete hands-on lab projects, guided by Institute researchers. Often using equipment not available within schools, Schools’ Day aims to enthuse, inspire and motivate students and provide a taste of what life is really like in the lab. Projects from this year's Schools' Day included:
- Monitoring cancer-killing T cells using flow cytometry
- Preparing and observing samples using a scanning electron microscope (SEM)
- Identifying genetic mutations using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
- Exploring enzyme function using gel electrophoresis
Approximately 208 students and 44 teachers attended, mostly from the local region.
