Schools & Teachers

Babraham Institute’s wider public engagement strategy aims to engage public audiences with the Institute’s scientific research. The Institute has a long-standing commitment to engage schools locally, nationally and internationally. We aim to inspire, excite and enthuse the next generation of scientists, sharing our passion for the wonder of scientific discovery and demonstrating the broad range of career opportunities available in the life sciences.

The schools engagement programme spans our three research areas; epigenetics, cell signalling and immunology, as well as our state-of-the-art scientific facilities to enrich learning for students of all ages and provide teachers with the opportunity to keep up to date with innovative research and technology.

We provide a range of opportunities for students and teachers, from visits to the Institute’s world-class laboratories and scientific facilities to researcher-led talks and hands-on activities. We also work to raise awareness of career opportunities in the life sciences; participating in careers events and offering work experience placements and teacher training placements throughout the year.

We work with young people, schools teachers and other educational groups, with a focus on young people in Key stage 3 to Key Stage 5 (Ages 11-19 years old).

BioInspire

Through our BioInspire programme, we aim to reach young people and schools in underserved communities, offering bespoke workshops, opportunities , visits to the Institute, and giving young people from these areas the opportunity to complete a Youth STEMM Award
