Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Lipid Mass Spectrometry
We seek to recruit an experienced Mass Spectrometrist to provide Lipidomics analysis expertise within the Wakelam research group and additionally, within the Lipidomics facility of the Babraham Institute.
The facility houses a Thermo TSQ Quantum Ultra GC-MS/MS, two AB-Sciex 4000QTRAP Mass spectrometers, a QTRAP 6500 with Solexion and a Thermo Orbitrap Elite mass spectrometer, each of the machines have hyphenated HPLC or UPLC systems and an Advion Nanomate is also available. The Institute has a proteomics capability, as well as further three Orbitrap mass spectrometers. Significant bioinformatics and computational biology support is also available.
Our Institute has recently been awarded Wellcome Trust funding, along with colleagues at Cardiff University and UC San Diego, to migrate the LIPID MAPS website and databasing capabilities to the UK.
To date the Lipidomics facility has generated data that has been published in numerous research papers. The Facility provides service to academic collaborators and commercial companies, where appropriate, bringing extra income to support the Facility.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to play a role in the ongoing developments in lipidomics at the Institute. The successful candidate will be an experienced Mass Spectrometrist, ideally with a background in lipidomics who also has an interest in the biology of lipid signalling.
Applicants will have a PhD in an appropriate biological or chemical subject and have experience in separating and analysing small molecules by mass spectrometry. Demonstrable experience in lipidomics and an understanding of lipid metabolism and signalling is highly desirable.

Starting salary is £30,751 per annum to £40,000 per annum depending on experience.
