Life Sciences Research for Lifelong Health

Previous Group Members

Laura Norton (Postdoc Research Assistant)
Laura joined the lab in 2009 to study the physiological importance of PLD signalling in cells of the immune system. After a short tenure in the Babraham Institute Grants team in 2015 Laura is now Athena SWAN/LIBRA Manager at the Babraham Institute. Laura is a member of the Babraham Nursery management committee and a local school governor.

RIchard Byrne (Senior Research Scientist)
Richard joined the lab in 2014 to investigate the roles of PLD1 and PLD2 in metabolism. He is now a Laboratory Manager at The Francis Crick Institute.

Himali Patel (Research Assistant)
After working with Qifeng in the lipidomics facility Himali left the UK to return to her family in Mumbai with hopes of continuing to work in Science.

Gavin McNee (PhD Student)
Gavin graduated in 2009 and went on to undertake a post-doctoral position at the University of Manchester.

Chloe-Jane Wilde (Research Assistant)
Chloe worked with Qifeng in the lipidomics facility preparing lipid extracts from cell and tissue samples for mass spectrometry analysis since leaving the lab she has qualified as a science teacher.

Kathy Hadfield Moorhouse
Kathy has worked at Babraham since 1991. She worked on many different projects before she joined this group to work on the role of the PTEN in the regulation of cell size. Kathy becameTechnical Services manager for Babraham and health and safety advisor for the institute and has now retired.

Susanna Jethwa (PhD student)
Susy completed her PhD in 2013. Her project focussed on Autotaxin signalling in exosomes.
Susy is now associate scientist at York Bioanalytical Solutions

Dr. Arndt Rohwedder (Post doc)
While in the lab Arndt worked on the signalling pathways regulating lipid droplet metabolism in Huh-7 cells. He left to take up a position as a post-doc at the University of Kiel.

Dr. Matthieu Vermeren (Post doc)
Matthieu joined the lab in 2009 to work on the physiological importance of PLD signalling. Matthieu is now working at the University of Edinburgh.

Elizabeth Smethurst (Research Assistant)
Lizzie worked in the lipidomics lab preparing lipid extracts for mass spectrometry analysis. She is now undertaking a PhD at the University of Oxford.

Florence Gower (Research Assistant)
Florence worked with Qifeng in the lipidomics facility preparing lipid extracts from cell and tissue samples for mass spectrometry analysis. She has left the lab to move closer to family and is working as a pharmaceutical scientist.

All of the many previous summer students, Nuffield students and DaVinci students who have worked in the lab have not been forgotten.
